Founded in 1976, Denver Taiko is the first taiko drumming group outside California and has been sharing this dynamic art form with audiences across North America ever since. We perform year-round at schools, festivals, cultural events, and private gatherings, bringing the power and spirit of taiko to all ages.

Our beginnings trace back to a 1976 workshop with Sensei Seiichi Tanaka, known as the Father of Taiko in North America. His influence inspired our founding members and connected us to a tradition now embraced by hundreds of groups across the U.S. and Canada. Over the years, our members have deepened their skills through training with master teachers in both Japan and the U.S., helping shape our unique style and voice.

Denver Taiko has become a vital part of Colorado’s cultural landscape, honored with the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2001. We’ve also had the privilege of learning directly from renowned artists like Sensei Yoichi Watanabe of Tokyo’s Amanojaku and his protégé, Isaku Kageyama. Their mentorship expanded our artistry and strengthened our commitment to preserving and evolving taiko.
Now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Denver Taiko continues to honor tradition while sharing the energy, emotion, and community spirit of taiko drumming. We look forward to inspiring you at our next performance.
